ALLFTD Mobile Phone App
What is it?
The ALLFTD Mobile App is administered through Linkt Health and supported by the company Datacubed. The App is used to administer short, gamified versions of cognitive, speech, motor and language assessments, as well as some surveys, to the ALLFTD participant and his or her study partner.
Why?
Pilot data suggests that these tests are reliable and track closely with similar in-person tests. We are aiming to compare the responses collected through personal mobile devices in ALLFTD with clinical standards and to understand whether or not this method of data collection is useful for future research or clinical trials.
Using the App
Participants will be asked to complete a series of tasks on their phones, requiring up to 2 hours of total participation spread across 12 days. They will be asked to complete this series of tasks every six months: baseline (within 30 days of the ALLFTD visit), a 6-month follow-up, a 12-month follow-up, an 18-month follow-up, and so on. The tasks will be similar at each time point. At each time point, the 2 hours of tasks will be divided into three “Chapters.” In the App, a Chapter represents the time period where a given map is available to complete. An example schedule is shown in the figure below. A limited set of tasks will be available during each chapter, with 1 washout day between each set of tasks. Participants may choose when and where to complete the assessments as long as they are safe and free from any distractions. The App will provide a countdown of the number of days and hours until the next chapter begins, as described later.
Compensation
After each Chapter is completed, participants will receive an in-App message with a $20 Amazon Gift Code (i.e., up to $60 for their total participation at each time point). If a participant does not complete all activities in a chapter within the limited time available, they will not receive payment for that Chapter. Study Partners are not compensated for participation.
